The Bombay High Court today directed social media platforms to remove AI-generated and morphed images of actress Shilpa Shetty, terming them “extremely disturbing and shocking”.

The court noted that these images, which were created without Shetty’s consent, violate her fundamental right to privacy and could severely tarnish her reputation.

The direction.was given in response to a petition moved by Shetty seeking protection of her personality rights, alleging that AI tools were used to clone her voice and mannerisms to create morphed images, videos, and merchandise.

The court has ordered the immediate removal of the offending URLs and will examine broader issues related to personality and publicity rights later.
